It Has Quickly Evolved Into A ‘Netiquette’ Standard
The autoresponder has become a necessary aid if you are going to send your newsletter to your list of subscribers - or to any group of people who let you email them occasionally with your offers. An autoresponder is just what it sounds like - software that “automatically responds” to emails sent to it.
One reason to get an autoresponder is that as soon as you configure it for a particular campaign, it knows all it needs to to run on its own, which saves you time. Your customers might even have the perception that you or the various employees are writing them personally.
In general, though, today’s people are aware of autoresponders - except maybe your grandmother who has never sent an email. They may not know it by its name, but they have certainly picked up on its existence; with email responses declaring, “Do not respond to this message, it has been automatically generated…” even your grandmother could put two and two together if she ever received such an email.
She would also know no ordinary being could send a “thank you for signing up for my newsletter, Cora…” the second after she signed up; yet today’s networker has come to expect such an immediate, personalized response…
Because the autoresponder has become a standard network fixture. If you don’t have an autoresponder, your system is outdated and you may be suspected of exhibiting poor “netiquette” by keeping your subscribers waiting.
Should You Get GetResponse or Aweber?
When looking for autoresponders, you might be looking to the two popular ones, Aweber and GetResponse. They’re “sequential” autoresponders, in that they respond to emails that your subscribers send you with predetermined emails that operate one after the other.
At this point, it’s useful to remind you that Aweber and GetResponse aren’t the only autoresponder programs out there. On the other hand, you’d be hard pressed to find more widely used ones. The companies behind these programs have enjoyed unparalleled success, which is attributed to the high quality and features of the program. The success has enabled them to fine tune the programs extensively.
So which brand is the best choice? There’s no easy answer, since both brands have numerous and faithful fans. My experience has been with Aweber, but GetResponse is also a good choice. Don’t obsess over your choice - either one is good. Just pick one brand of email autoresponder software - and catch up to the times!
